About Me

My photo
My hair isn't growing, I’ve been trying for a years. Some people just have slow growing hair. Hmmm! So now I’m embarking on a journey to grow my hair long. I've done a bit of research over the World Wide Web. My hair Idol is Tendayi from africanhairblog. She’s keeping me motivated and I’m so grateful.

KNOW THE DIFFERENCE: Protein and Moisturizing Conditioners

For those looking to add strength and moisture to their hair, deep conditioning on a consistent basis is key.

Pictured below are two various conditioning products (which are both great, by the way). One moisturizes, while the other provides protein.

Here’s a segment explaining the difference:

Introducing Phro’s HairLine Challenge

I needed some serious help with my hairline so I’ve joined Phro’s HairLine Challenge. I have recently started using castor oil on my hairline (thanks Aphrophro). Check out her complete list of hair challenges on http://phrophro.com/about/

What’s the challenge?

To get your edges / baby hair / temple hair growing again, there are a few things that you need to consider: TIME, DILIGENCE, PRODUCTS and CARE.
The Rules:
Duration:             Two Months
Frequency:         Every night before you go to bed
Product:               Castor Oil
Utensils:              Tail Comb, Silk /Satin Scarf and Camera
Take a picture of your edges before you start, and then once a fortnight for two months. Note the differences, and if you’re brave enough, load them up on Phro’s Hair Community.
*side challenge* if you need to fill in your eye brow hair, you can also put some castor oil on them (lightly) before you go to bed.

Wash update

Thursday 01/12/2011- Another wash day – and I just thought I’d update you on my hair regimen.

Pre-poo:

Today I used amla oil and castor oil. I concentrated the mix to my scalp using a spray bottle, and then massaged it for a few minutes. I then capped it for overnight.

Shampoo

I used my Vigro® Bio-Shampoo. Vigro® Bio-Shampoo is a pH neutral, triple action shampoo with 9 scalp stimulating and botanical extracts to deep cleanse the hair of dead skin cells, pollutants and sebum (the oily secretion of the sebaceous gland) that can clog your pores and choke healthy hair follicles.
Directions for use:
·         Apply a small amount to wet hair and massage gently into the scalp
·         Rinse thoroughly
·         Re-apply, massaging into a lather
·         Leave in for 2 minutes before rinsing thoroughly
·         Towel dry

Conditioner

I mixed Organic Root Stimulator Replenishing Conditioner with honey and Indian hair grower.    Indian hair grower oil is a great conditioner; it promotes hair growth and strengthens the root of the hair. I used this oil mixture on my edges and mid-length part of my hair, and then I wore a shower cap and let it sit overnight in a satin sleep scarf. The next morning I rinsed it out.  As I rinsed my hair out, I could feel that it was it very soft and well-conditioned.
Tip:   You shouldn’t place conditioner on your scalp at all. Conditioners don’t wash off when you rinse, they are created to go in the depths of your hair and bond with it. So when the conditioner goes on your scalp, it remains there. In time it builds up and starts to flake off which appears like dandruff.
Leave in Conditioner
I then applied my Vigro® Bio-Activator Leave on Cream – a creamy leave on treatment for dry, course hair containing Follicusan™. This also helps to prevent breakage and helps strengthen hair that has been damaged from harsh chemical treatments (such as relaxing, braiding, and perming).
Directions for use:
·         Towel dry hair after washing with Vigro Bio-Shampoo
·         Apply Vigro Bio-Tonic to your scalp using the nozzle
·         Gently massage into your scalp
·         Leave for 10 minutes
·         Do not rinse off
·         Dry and style hair as usual
Moisturize
I will be using natural Organic Root Stimulator Carrot oil and Organic Root Stimulator Incredibly Rich Oil Moisturizing Hair Lotion to moisturise my hair. I will seal with coconut oil.

What Are the Benefits of Castor Oil for Hair Growth?

I’ve been using castor oil for a few weeks and I noticed quite a diffrence.  My hair looks and feel way better. (Looks much healthier)
I’ve been using it almost every day.

Regular castor oil use on your hair’s roots and scalp will help:

1.Increase hair growth
2.Thicken hair that is starting to thin out
3.Reduce and prevent hair damage
4.Eliminate dry hair
5.Make the hair fuller and shinier
6.Deeply condition and moisturize hair and scalp
7.Prevents dry scalp
8.Boost your hair’s overall health

Applying castor oil to your hair tips will also prevent your hair from looking frizzy and having split ends and damage. You will also notice that your hair is stronger and won’t develop split ends that easily anymore.

MY PRE-POO & WASH TREATMENT

Pre-Shampoo (Pre-Poo)
While my hair was dry, I oiled my scalp with Amla oil.  Sometimes I use Coconut oil.
Then took a warmed wet towel and wrapped it somewhat tightly around my hair to keep in the warmth and moisture.  Next, I covered it with a plastic shower cap.
After allowing the treatment to sit for a little over 1 hour, I shampooed with a Vigro® Bio-Shampoo.

After rinsing thoroughly, applied a protein treatment, Organic Root Stimulator Replenishing Conditioner mixed with Honey and Coconut oil,and again covered with a plastic shower cap for an hour.

After an hour I rinsed my hair with warm water.   After gently towel blotting my hair, I applied a leave-in conditioner (Vigro® Bio-Activator Leave on Cream).  I then air-dried my hair.
When my hair is dry I apply castor oil to my roots and scalp sealed my ends with a very small amount of coconut oil.

For maintain, I use Organic Root Stimulator Carrot oil every day in the morning or S-Curl Activator Moisturizer and Castor Oil.

Relaxer Posts

Some of my hair on the sides at the front have broken off and thin due to too much braiding and weaving.

I’m now growing out an EXTREMELY short haircut.  I’ve learned that an improperly installed weave or improper haircare while wearing a weave all can contribute to your natural hair's breakage.   Some people say it will take about six months for your edges to grow in and for the front to grow back. I guess I just have to be patient.

In October 25, 2011 is the day I decided that enough is enough and started to take of my hair.

This is where I am now (with a little bit of hairpiece in front)

It has been five weeks since my last relaxer on 25 October 2011.  I have 3 more weeks to go until I relax my hair again. I’m going to continue washing, deep conditioning and oiling scalp (with castor oil) twice a week.  I will also continue moisturizing every day.
I use Organic Root stimulator relaxer.

Have you heard of stretching?

Stretching is a term used in the hair growing community to describe increased amounts or time between relaxer touch ups.  If you normal receive your relaxer touch ups at 6-8 weeks you might benefit from stretching your relaxer touched up to 10-12 weeks.
I would love to try this exercise but not now when my hair is breaking like now because hair expects says you should listen to your hair.  It you feel that you are experiencing increase breakage, end your stretch.
